As we all learn more about the climate crisis and other threats to our environment, people are becoming increasingly interested in the ways in which they can do their part to help change the trend. It is clear that our consumption has had an enormous detrimental effect on the environment. Greener One therefore believes that an important part of helping the environment comes from taking a closer look at the items we consume – whether they are paper towels, household appliances, or automobiles – and choosing products and services that are greener and therefore better for the planet.
We also believe that people make better choices when they have information to help them, especially if the information is easy to understand and easy to find. Determining the greenness of a product can be a complex task; to form an accurate picture, the following kinds of questions must be answered:
- The materials within the product: Are they harmful to the environment? Where were they sourced, and at what environmental cost? Are they renewable resources? Are the materials recycled? How much transportation is involved in getting the materials to the manufacturer?
- The manufacturing process: How much energy was consumed in creating the product? What kind and how much waste is created in making the product? Is this waste reused in any way? If not, how is it disposed?
- Product usage: Does using the product release any pollutants into the environment? How much energy is consumed while using the product? What is the average life expectancy of the product?
- Product disposal: Can the product be recycled? Does the manufacturer have a recycling program? Is the product bio-degradable?
Considering all these factors is enough to make anyone’s head spin! That’s why Greener One created a way for people to compare products on an environmental basis and to share product information with one another. A variety of factors for each product are converted into a simple “green index” score that can be easily understood by anyone.

Greener One was created by a group of technology veterans committed to the idea that people who are empowered with information can change the world. We put the tools in your hands to make the right decisions, to share your knowledge and to open conversations with companies about the products that they produce. Everything you consume has an impact; Greener One gives you the knowledge to determine the size of your environmental footprint.

Hi Casey -
Great question! I’m surprised that these are not easier to find, but I have read that clear cases can only be made from new material. Here are a few options for you:
Green Disk in Washington state recycles computer-related waste into office products. In the case of DVD cases, they sort out the ones that are still in pristine shape for reuse. http://www.greendisk.com/gdsite/jewelcases.aspx
Uline has a line of 100% recycled resin cases. They are black, however they have a clear plastic sleeve so you can add an insert to customize your cases any way you’d like. http://www.uline.com/ProductDetail.asp?model=S-12242
Another option you might want to check out is the PaperFoam company, which makes eco-friendly CD & DVD cases, though not out of recycled plastic. They claim these cases are nearly carbon neutral and can be recycled with paper. Apple, Universal Music, and Sony BMG are all using PaperFoam’s packaging. http://www.paperfoam.com/

My Garn makes the only tried and tested anti-bacterial spray that is not only proven to kill 99.99% of all known germs and bacteria it is 100% natural and is also proven to kill M.R.S.A. for up to forty hours. You should take a look at her site she makes all her products from natural plant oils. I am seven and my mom is helping me to write this because my Gran has made so many good products that have helped all of the people who use it. It is used by doctors and dentists and every house that my friends live in. My freind at the resturant that I go to uses it in his Kitchen and bath rooms. He lets me make my own Pitzas
Thank you for reading my letter. Jagger

Great article… and don’t forget the benefits that planting a tree will have on the environment. Each one will soak up 20kgs of CO2 every year and put enough Oxygen back in the atmosphere to support 2 people.

Hi Molly,
I’m looking for Exeter’s Lemon Thyme Dish Soap, which is listed on your site. The bottle I have was bottled for KitchenEtc.com, and bought several years ago, but they no longer carry it. I haven’t been able to locate it on the net, and since it is such a terrific product, I’d like to find it. Any advice? And, if so, is it as good as it seems?
best,
Maria Barlow
